We hope you will enjoy your stay here. The house is converted to guest rooms from a previously office of the labor union Byggettan. We have tried to arrange everything to be nice staying here, but there may be things that we have not thought of, and are therefore grateful for advice on improvements. The house is completely non-smoking and pet free.
Environment Responsibility
You are expected to be environmentally aware sorting your garbage, minimizing use of water and electricity. Gotland municipality’s brochure is available at the information board in the entrance, telling how the sorting works on Gotland. The two bins in the back yard are collected by garbage enterprise, every fourteen days. The brown bin for compost transforms garbage to soil, the black for garbage that can be burnt. Special compost plastic bags are found in the kitchen. In the left door of outhouse there are bins for paper packings and plastic packings. Newspapers are placed in paper bags, glass and metal are placed in the respective paper boxes.
Gotland is short of water. As environmentally conscious you do not waste water when showering and doing the dishes. Student housing means that everyone has a joint responsibility for keeping things clean and tidy. For example detergents or other common needs, you must agree together on who has to buy new supplies.
Keep in mind that you have your keys with you when you go out, because the front door and the gate of the yard are locked automatically. The reason is that there are relatively high theft risks and we do not want unauthorized persons to enter. Also make sure that the outside door to the kitchen is locked, especially at night. In the back yard you can put your bike. The gate key is the same as for the main entrance.
If you have suitcases or anything else that you do not want in your room, you can put it in the space under the stairs. The door is not locked, place no theft valuable there. If you have something you want to put away for a long time, check with the landlord, it can probably be arranged. The house is insured, but for your personal belongings and responsibilities, you have to arrange your own insurance. Internet access is available via the sockets in the rooms. It is only the specially marked outlet that is active. There is also a wireless connection.
The house has an advanced ventilation system to create a good indoor climate. The system has a heat recovery, as when it is too warm indoors goes the other way and try to exploit the outside temperature to lower temperature indoors. The ventilation is reduced slightly at night to reduce the discrete noise that still exists and the temperature is lowered slightly. Ventilation by opening windows will disturb the system and is not permitted other than for short periods if needed and only while you are in the room.
Laundry:
The laundry machine is set up for powder detergents and should not be changed to liquid because there are many who use the machine and no uncertainty should prevail. The machine takes 6 kg laundry which is quite a lot. For most people living in the house the amount of laundry needed is less. If possible - collaborate with others so that the machine is running full. If you have a small amount it is highly recommended that you use the button “supersnabb” (super fast) that can be used in any washing program. It saves the environment with less detergent and laundry time is reduced considerably. Normal laundry takes 170 minutes for cotton 60 ˚ and 75 minutes for delicates 40 ˚. Read the manuals carefully. They are in the kitchen! Always shut off the water when the machine is not in use and leave the machine door open. Do not forget to clean the detergent compartment and drain filter. Do not allow anyone other than those living in the property to use the washing equipment.
Remember that the laundry is fresher if you hang it out to dry and also saves lots of energy. If you are going to tumble laundry, centrifuge 1400 rpm. The dryer is of condensation type which means that the heat produced comes out to the room and then the whole house gain the heat through the ventilation system. It may be an advantage to have the door to the hallway open but keep the door to the yard closed. Empty the dryer of the water and lint after each use.
Living together:
People living together in a house may have different day rhythms and tolerance of noise. You need to take this into account. Big parties are not permitted. You are also responsible for the people who visit you. Persons not renting a room are not allowed living in the house.
